Lecturer, Clemson University
I am a Lecturer in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Clemson University. This is my second year teaching large lecture courses of 100+ students, but I have been sharing astronomy both in formal and informal classroom settings since 2010. I employ a learner-centered approach in my classroom by meeting students where they are and helping them to build upon their knowledge base. I also utilize peer instruction through group discussion questions and implement a variety of teaching tools to help students learn such as inquiry-based activities, ranking tasks, and clicker-style questions. If I can pass my love and appreciation of the cosmos onto a student, help them gain critical thinking skills, and give them confidence in their scientific literacy, then I have accomplished something great.
Courses taught for non-science majors:
ASTR 1010 - Solar System Astronomy lecture
ASTR 1020 - Stellar Astronomy lecture
ASTR 1030 - Solar System Astronomy lab
ASTR 1040 - Stellar Astronomy lab
